Dempsey's elaborate monochromatic garden scenes show botanicals in an
extreme state of evolution. These imaginative futuristic gardens show plants
reacting to the warming environment and emerging into more aggressive,
sexually charged and survival-oriented forms of life. These plants are shown
as reversed silhouettes - simplifying these invented figures of nature into
emblematic profiles.

With the world's climate changing new botanicals emerge into non-classified
forms. Some flowers fly like migratory birds while others may develop
protective foliage. Dempsey uses distinct, yet elegant and lyrical, shapes
to give a sense of heightened expression. Bubbly clouds and rounded flowers
show the influences of urban art and street lettering that add to this
underlying sense of being and survival. Color-schemes from 18h century
French tapestries play off the theme of lost worlds, and these new
botanicals may be incorporated into patterns of the future if we don’t take
care of our planet.

Dempsey was born in Evanston, Illinois, and studied art under Aethelred
Eldridge at Ohio University where he began to develop his contemporary art
style.

Dempsey resides and paints in Chicago.
